Last night, the Pads and Giants faced off in game 1 of a 2 game series. Once again the Padres got off to a fast start in the first when Jesus Guzman singled in Jason Bartlett. Then in the 2nd they struck again with Kyle Blanks hitting a 2 run homer 379 feet to left field. The next inning they score again with a RBI single from Cameron Maybin making it 4-0 through 3. The Giants offence finally started to get to Latos with a fielders choice that scored both Pablo Sandoval and Aubrey Huff. The Pads came right back with a fielders choice of their own scoring Orlando Hudson. With a 5-2 lead in the 8th the Padres brought in Luke Gregerson who then proceeded to give up an RBI double to Brandon Belt. 2 batters later Hector Sanchez singled in Cody Ross and the next batter, Orlando Cabrera, singled in Aaron Rowand to tie in up. The Padres came back in the top of the 9th saying not so fast when Alberto Gonzalez singled in Nick Hundley and after a wild pitch Will Venable knocked in Gonzalez with a RBI single. Finally, Heath Bell came in a pitched a 1-2-3 inning to get his 35th save of the year. The winning pitcher was Erik Hamren who improved to 1-0 and Ramon Ramirez got the lost and is now 2-2.
Game 2's pitching matchup puts Tim Stauffer (8-9 3.43 ERA) against Tim "The Freak" Lincecum (11-10 2.53 ERA).
